Well... after snow storm after snow storm it's beginning to warm up a bit. Mrs. loves nothing more than REAL Maple Syrup, so when she said lets tap some trees she meant it.
Coming home from work exhausted from a long day in the office is no excuse to not do what Mrs. wants. Grabbing my tape measure and drill I headed out in search of Maples of adequate girth. Having found some, well... hundreds really, of tappable trees we drilled holes and hung our 6 buckets to collect sweet water from our trees. Every day since, Mr. is asked if he emptied the buckets, to which he replied yes of course.
When Mrs. had a day off from work she began boiling and boiling. 40 gallons of sap to produce 1 gallon of syrup. Mr. can already see that we are gonna need more equipment and more buckets.
Mr. walks into the kitchen and sees Mrs. with a huge grin on her face as she lifts a glass of fresh Maple Syrup to her kips. "Is she really drinking this straight up?" Yes she was. So far we ended up with about a gallon with about enough more sap to make another. The smile on her face makes it worth the effort.
